Adders dominant in score draw

FT: Atherstone 2    2 Aylesbury United

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Following a fine performance away at Sudbury, adders faced a much improved Aylesbury team who despite their lowly position had beaten Bromsgrove and perfomed well against leaders Burnham in the last 7 days. Adders included new signing James Mace in defence.

The early play was to the Adders and the first chance fell to Tom Weale who shot well wide whilst off balance.

Aylesbury surprisingly took the lead in the 21st. minute when a cross by Nash was hoisted into the Adders area and Bartley hooked it into the net from 6yds.

Adders reply was a Dineen header from a corner which flew just wide.

Aylesbury inspired by their unexpected lead started passing the ball around well while Adders were creating nothing.

However in the 37th minute a Luke Keen shot was parried by Sillitoe in the Aylesbury

Goal and Hendrie slotted home the rebound.

Adders soon took the lead in the 43rd minute when a Smith header was passed under the advancing goalkeeper again by Hendrie.

In an exciting end to the half Woakes saved well by pushing a header onto the cross bar. However, from the resulting corner, a weak shot from Pringle trickled over the line passed the unsighted Woakes.

HT: Atherstone 2    2 Aylesbury United

The second half began with Aylesbury on the attack and poor defending by the Adders let in Pringle but his lob was athletically saved by Woakes.

There was little more constructive play until Roscorla brightened up proceedings with a mazy run and shot over the visitors bar.

The Adders were now in the ascendancy and a Keen header was cleared off the Aylesbury line.

In the 70th minute, Simeon Smith volleyed well over the bar fell kindly to him on the edge of the Aylesbury box.

The introduction of Jordan Nadat up front for the Adders gave them more zip and one exciting run lead to a free kick, but Hendrie shot just over.

The last ten minutes passed with Aylesbury on the back foot, but Adders failed to create much impression and a generally scrappy game came to a close.
