Adders gain comfortable win

FT: Atherstone 2    0 Bromsgrove Rovers

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Early pressure was from the Adders but a 4th minute effort by Smith was rightly ruled out for offside. Tom Guiney should also have done better with a close range header from a corner but the ball went well wide.
The first real chance was to the Adders in the 9th minute when a defensive lapse let in Smith, but he dallied on the ball and the chance was lost. It was not until the 12th minute when Bromsgrove attacked but the free touch went straight to Woakes.
Adders were well on top but could not beat down a strong Bromsgrove rear guard with several attacks being stopped due to offside.
Hendrie and Smith were working hard upfront but without success, a 22nd minute volley from Smith being the only shot of note. A generally scrappy first half drew to a close without too much to excite the frozen crowd.

HT: Atherstone 0    0 Bromsgrove Rovers

Adders started the second half brightly forcing the early pace; on 48 minutes Stuart Hendrie cut in and ran at the home defence his goal bound shot deflected into the path of Simeon Smith who hit home from close range.
Adders continued to dominate and a well worked cross in the 55th minute saw a superb header from Todd Perry scoring Adders second.
Grant Roscorla almost added a third 10 minutes later with a miss hit cross against the bar. It was still all Adders and it was not until the 75th minute that Bromsgrove had their first shot on goal with an effort by Beadle straight at Woakes. Tom Weale on a substitute again showed considerable skill with two goal runs and shots. The last shot of the game came from Keen in the 88th minute from a free kick straight at Lewis.

A competent performance against an uninspiring Bromsgrove side in a match which unusually no trainer came on the pitch.
