Defensive Errors Cost Adders

FT: Beaconsfield SYCOB 4    0 Atherstone

Saturday, January 23, 2010

The Adders started brightly and played some nice neat football with plenty of possession in the early exchanges. Unfortunately, in the seventh minute Johnson was caught in possession and Charlery crossed for Martin to open the scoring for Beaconsfield against the run of play.

Atherstone continued to play some good football, but without delivering the decisive ball in the final third. Hendrie shot just over from a free kick and Hill hit the post for the home side.

The away side were enjoying a good spell but conceded a few corner kicks in a row. In 26th minute, and on the third corner kick, Bernard headed in off the post, unchallenged. Beaconsfield lead two - nil, against the general run of play. Stuart Hendrie was booked for a foul.

During the run up to half time, the play became a bit more scrappy, but the Adders had three good chances, the best of these fell to Luke Keen, but the home keeper made a great save.

HT: Beaconsfield SYCOB 2    0 Atherstone

The second half started in the worst possible way for the Adders as Beaconsfield scored almost from the kick off. Martin passed to Papali who scored from close range.

On the hour Hill completed the Adders misery when he scored with plenty of time and space.

The Adders continued to battle and had at least nine good half chances, but all were either wide or saved.

Simeon Smith and Jarred Stevens were booked for dissent and a foul respectively. No home team players were cautioned.

The officials were far too inconsistent and allowed home misdemeanours to go unpunished.

In fairness, we could not blame the officials today, it was simply a bad day at the office.

Daren Fulford has said that there will be ups and downs with a young side. We have had more ups than downs, so let us see what Tuesday brings.
